40 Years of Knitwear Heritage
From humble handcraft workshops to a world-class knitwear industrial cluster — Chenghai's four-decade journey of craftsmanship and innovation
The Beginning — Cottage Industry Era
In the early 1980s, Chenghai's knitwear industry took root with family-run workshops and hand-flat knitting machines. Local artisans, drawing on generations of textile tradition, began producing sweaters for domestic markets, laying the foundation for what would become China's most famous knitwear town.
Golden Age of Foreign Trade
Riding the wave of China's opening-up policy, Chenghai knitwear entered the global market in the 1990s. Factories expanded rapidly, importing advanced computerized flat knitting machines from Japan and Germany. Export orders from Europe, America, and Southeast Asia poured in, establishing Chenghai's reputation for quality and craftsmanship.
Industrial Cluster Formation
By the 2000s, Chenghai had developed a complete industrial ecosystem — from yarn dyeing, fabric knitting, and pattern design to finishing, packaging, and logistics. Thousands of factories and supporting businesses clustered together, creating unmatched efficiency and cost advantages that attracted buyers worldwide.
Transformation & Upgrading
The 2010s marked a shift from OEM to ODM and brand development. Chenghai factories invested heavily in design R&D, built professional design teams, and began launching original collections. The industry embraced digitalization, automation, and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Digital Smart Manufacturing
Today, Chenghai leads China's knitwear industry with fully automated production lines, digital design systems, and smart supply chain management. As a certified 'China Craft Knitwear Famous City', it continues to supply the world's leading fashion brands while pioneering the future of sustainable knitwear manufacturing.
The yarns of Chenghai have woven not just sweaters, but the dreams and livelihoods of generations — each stitch a testament to the enduring spirit of craftsmanship.

Sweater Production Flow
From design to delivery — 7 core production stages, 20 years of craftsmanship ensuring excellence in every sweater
Design, Sampling & Pattern Grading
Our professional design team creates styles, develops patterns and prepares color cards based on your requirements or references. Skilled pattern technicians calculate precise stitch counts, shaping curves and row ratios for back, front, sleeves and trims — producing detailed technical specification sheets. First sample is made to confirm fit, measurements and craftsmanship before bulk production.
Yarn Sourcing & Testing
We source premium yarns including wool, cashmere, cotton, acrylic and blends. Incoming yarn undergoes strict quality control: yarn count verification, evenness testing, color fastness grading, pilling resistance and tensile strength — all must pass before production. Hank yarn is wound into cone form suitable for flat knitting machines.
Computerized Flat Knitting
Fully automatic flat knitting machines (Stoll, Shima Seiki, Cixing) knit precise panels per the technical spec — front, back, sleeves, collars and rib trims. Our machine fleet covers gauges 3G, 5G, 7G and 12G, from chunky coats to fine-gauge lightweight styles. Supports a full range of stitch structures: jersey, 1×1 / 2×2 rib, jacquard, cable, waffle, drop needle and pique. Panels are inspected for dropped stitches, holes and tension consistency before assembly.
Linking & Hand Finishing
Experienced linking operators use linking machines to precisely join panels — setting sleeves, side seams, collars and cuffs with matching stitch counts and clean seams. Hand finishers handle details machines cannot: weaving in ends, grafting V-points, picking stitches and trimming loose threads. A linking apprentice typically takes about two years to master the craft.
Washing & Blocking
Professional washing process gives sweaters soft hand feel and stable shape: milling creates a fine nap surface, softener improves touch, and steam pressing / blocking sets the final form. Washing formula, temperature and timing are strictly controlled to ensure size tolerance within ±1–1.5 cm with zero shrinkage or distortion.
Quality Control & Mending
Three-stage QC ensures quality at every step: ① Panel inspection — dropped stitches, holes, stitch tension, measurements; ② Seam inspection — seam tension, missed stitches, shoulder balance, armhole alignment; ③ Final inspection / AQL audit — appearance, defects, sizing, shading. Menders repair minor issues on the spot. 99%+ pass rate for bulk orders.
Pressing, Packaging & Shipping
After final steam pressing, garments go through packaging: de-linting and thread trimming, attaching main / care labels, hang tags and price tickets, then folded or hung per customer specification. Sorted by color and size, packed into export cartons with correct shipping marks. FOB, CIF and DDP trade terms available — delivered worldwide by sea, air or express on schedule.
